Description
‘Rurikoji Temple, Yamaguchi City’ original acrylic and ink painting on cut paper. Presented in a 25 x 25cm black box frame. There are three distinct layers lifted from a dark background, creating an interesting theatrical effect as each raised shape cast a shadow on the illustration below.
Rurikō-ji (瑠璃光寺), is a Buddhist temple, best known for its five-storied pagoda that is a national treasure. Built in 1442, the pagoda is justifiably ranked among Japan’s three greatest, alongside those of Horyuji Temple near Nara and Daigoji Temple in Kyoto.
This Instagram series posted for #artistsupportpledge, offers work for sale up to £200. Once I reach £1000 in sales I pledge to buy for £200 from another artist taking part. A lovely concept to help support artists after most of the 2020 exhibitions, open studios and other selling events have been cancelled.
