No.1 – The Golden Gate Bridge

Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco by Jonathan Chapman

No. 1 of my 2018 world series challenge is the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco.

The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate strait connecting San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. At the time of its opening in 1937, it was both the longest and the tallest suspension bridge in the world, with a main span of 4,200 feet (1,280 m) and a total height of 746 feet (227 m).

The illustration is 29 x 29cm created with acrylic and ink on acrylic paper. I particularly love looking through photographs featuring this bridge, each one seems to find new colours in the hazy California landscape… here’s my creative take with a pink and purple haze below a more traditional blue sky.

Next up: No.2 – Sydney Opera House.
